A new insider report suggests that Microsoft may introduce yet another Xbox 360 model next year; one with HD DVD bundled to combat rising Blu-ray adoption.
According to SmartHouse, an Australian technology website, an unnamed Toshiba executive confirmed that Microsoft and Toshiba are jointly developing a new Xbox 360 "entertainment hub" complete with HD DVD, larger hard drive, and new media center software.
"We are working on it," the source said adding that Xbox 360 needs to be more than just a gaming machine, and that the device "may also be sold under the Toshiba brand name."
The new rumored console is seen as a last ditch effort in the high definition wars as Sony's Blu-ray makes minor inroads and is a key selling point when buying a PlayStation 3 says the report.
The new Xbox 360 model is expected sometime in late 2008 or early 2009.
