Konami declared a console war truce on Tuesday saying that no single platform will dominate this generation like the PS2 did last generation.

"Previously, a single home gaming platform [PS2] was the market leader worldwide, but that pattern has changed," Konami said in a statement.

"Whichever platform best caters to users' preferences in a particular country or region, in terms of the games available to be played on it, is now the one that will dominate the local market."

The PlayStation 2, which launched in late 2000, dominated Microsoft's Xbox and Nintendo's GameCube in almost every category last generation selling more than 120 million units.

Currently, Wii has sold reported 13.5 million units worldwide, while the Xbox 360 has sold an estimated 13 million systems, most of which stem from U.S. and European sales. PS3, by contrasts, has sold an estimated 5.5 million units worldwide.
