French publisher Ubisoft plans to create 1000 new jobs by expanding its Quebec operations and establishing a new film studio strictly devoted to CGI.

The plan has been divided into two main objectives: 500 new video game positions would be established in Ubisoft's Montreal studios while another 500 CGI specialists would work in a new specialized studio dedicated to the "creation of digital cinema content".

"The studio's mission will be to produce short films whose inspiration is drawn from games based on Ubisoft brands," quotes the press release. "A first eight-minute short film will be based on the award-winning and highly anticipated game, Assassin's Creed."

In regards to the new CGI studio, Guillemot concluded by saying, "Video game production has progressively moved closer and closer to film and television production and this convergence will only intensify in coming years. [...] Today's launch of a studio specializing in digital film creation will allow Ubisoft to be a pioneer in the domain for the years to come."

We're guessing they didn't see Final Fantasy the movie.
