Penrith won, so did the NSW Blues and we yet again gave the Poms a Kangaroo hiding - another year of Rugby League complete, right? Well, not quite, because tomorrow (the 12th of December) a new Rugby League game for PlayStation2 is hitting store shelves and if you caught the review in issue one of Australian GamePro, you’ll be aware that it’s something worth getting excited about.
A lot of Aussie punters are obviously excited. Early reports suggest that pre-sales of the title have gone through the roof, with most of the first shipment already bound for homes across Australia and New Zealand.
Clearly the hunger for league in this country has not been negated by the Rugby World Cup extravaganza and with the new season still months a way, it’s a good opportunity for fans to whet their appetite.
Developed by rookies Sidhe Interactive in New Zealand and distributed by HES, the road for Rugby League has been somewhat abnormal. Electronic Arts apparently passed up the opportunity to publish it, but even those in the games industry had little prior knowledge of the title.
The good news is that NRL Rugby League is a winner, combining solid gameplay and smooth controls with the true feel of the sport. Whether you’re a Roosters supporter, Broncos fan or even barrack for the Storm, we suggest heading down to your local game store tomorrow to get a taste of the hard-hitting action.
NRL Rugby League is available from December 12th for $99.95 RRP
