Since its debut in 1999, the WWE series of video games has raked in US$527 million (AU$715.5 million) in global sales. Not too shabby by any stretch of the corporate imagination and in quite a coup, Nintendo have picked up the sole console rights for the next instalment, WWE: Day of Reckoning.
Developed by Japanese based Yuke’s Co. it’ll feature 40 of the WWE’s hottest properties, including hard-asses Kurt Angle, Triple H, Chris Benoit, John Cena and Randy Orten. There will be solid story mode (referred to as ‘The School of Hard Knocks’) where you can create a superstar who must work their way through the minor leagues and then graduate through the WWE program.
Other game modes definitely sound intriguing; such as the Bra & Panties Match (expect a detailed review of this one), WWE Divas and WWE Legends. Other gameplay enhancements heading for the GameCube are strong and weak grapples, realistic reversals, superstar finishes and an all new submission system.
If that isn’t enough to coat-hanger your attention, you should know WWE Day of Reckoning will be on shelves for GameCube by mid-2004. Mario better watch his ass.
