Thief III is the latest in Eidos Interactive's series of PC-only stealth action games. This one isn't PC-only, however - developer Ion Storm is making the third game in the series for both the PC and Xbox systems.

Thief III marks the return of Garrett, a master thief who lives in the medieval-themed City and engages in freelance weath redistribution as a profession - to himself, that is. In this game Garrett's been called to defend the City from a Dark Age currently being prophesied, as well as a greater evil that he's drummed up during his work.

As before, Garrett will use many handy thief's tools to avoid armed detection and steal some of the City's most valuable treasures. New features this time around include "body awareness," giving you the ability to see Garrett's hands and feet at all times while climbing up walls picking locks, and leaning over ledges. In addition, Ion Storm's lighting system will let you mess around with light and shadows in realtime, allowing for new strategies in getting past some obstacles.

"The opportunity to create a game in the Thief universe is a real thrill for me and the rest of the folks at Ion Storm," said Warren Spector, studio director at Ion Storm. "Thief pioneered the concept of 'stealth action' gameplay on the PC and was the game that, more than any other, inspired me to build a team to create Deus Ex. Now, Ion and the Thief team hope to take the "sneaker" genre to new heights and, by developing for both Xbox and PC, bring it to an even larger audience than before."
