U.S. Government Wrongly Accuses Dutch Battlefield 2 Gamer of Terrorist Recruitment (News)

The 25 year-old Dutch gamer Samir created an 11-minute video with Battlefield 2 that depicts a man in Arab head-dress combating U.S. invaders. The video was shown this month to the U.S. Congressional Committee as evidence to show examples of how Muslim youth are recruited by militants.

Samir, however, was surprised that his video was shown to Congress as his production was done just out of fun.

In an interview with Reuters, Samir said the video wasn't supposed to be political and that "it has nothing to do with recruiting people or training people." Rather, Samir posted his work on a Battlefield 2 forum to solicit feedback on his video production skills.

Exactly how the U.S. Government mistook the video for terrorist propaganda boggles the mind, since it is an obvious parody. The video even includes dialogue from the film Team America: World Police, the marionette comedy from the makers of South Park.

"Government agencies should do more research before coming to conclusions," says Samir, "The movie wasn't what they presented it to be."
