LucasArts officially announced today the details of Star Wars Battlefront, a multiplayer action game that's coming out the PlayStation 2, Xbox and the PC. With gameplay akin to Battlefield 1942, the game features multiple solider classes and usable vehicles including the AT-ST, X-Wing and the speeder bike.
Battlefront will feature 15 environments across 10 planets including the Hoth, Geonosis, Yavin, Tatooine and Naboo. Players will be able to select from four factions, each with five different soldier types. The factions include the Rebel Alliance, Imperial Army, Clone army, and Droid army. Each type of solider will have specialized abilities, and have the option of using ground-based turrets as well as one of the 15 vehicles available in the game.
The game will be multiplayer-centered, optimized for PS2 Online, Xbox Live, and PC online. Console players can battle against up to 16 players over the Internet or 32 via LAN, while PC gamers can battle against 32 players over Internet and 64 over LAN. Voice chat will be supported for all systems.
In addition to the standard single-player and multiplayer modes, a "Conquest" mode is offered that gives the winning side special bonus abilities which can be deployed in future battles.
Star Wars Battlefront is developed by Pandemic Studios.
