Report: Nintendo to revive 'old franchise' for Wii (News)

The somewhat reputable French boys from Gamekyo (formerly JeuxFrance) are reporting that Nintendo will announce a franchise revival at the company's press conference on Thursday.

"We can announce today that Nintendo will reveal a new game for the Wii during this event, which is actually an old franchise that everyone is waiting for (the implied game that is, not the event)," the site reported Tuesday, opting not to reveal the source of any such confirmation.

Nintendo was not immediately available for comment when contacted by GamePro Tuesday afternoon.

The news arrives three days after Nikkei Business announced that Nintendo would unveil a DS Lite capable of playing music and taking pictures at the same press conference, something the publisher has since denied.

This isn't the first time this year Nintendo has been the subject of wild speculation by core gamers hoping for some classic company love. In may, both IGN and Kombo claimed that Nintendo would announce Kid Icarus Wii at E3, which it didn't.

Nintendo isn't innocent, however, when it comes to fueling exciting. In June, the company told GamePro: "We will be announcing several new titles that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3," which it didn't (according to most gamers, that is).

Whatever happens, Nintendo is holding a press conference in San Francisco this Thursday, and GamePro will be on site to bring you the latest.
