After years of waiting and a slight delay, Metal Gear Solid 4 launched at midnight Thursday morning in the heart of New York City.
The Virgin Megastore launch event featured long lines; series creator, director and mastermind Hideo Kojima; and a few actors who gave the game their all with motion capturing and voice work.
The long lines were blocks long, according to Wired's Chris Kohler, who was in attendance last night. Yascear Deolall, 21, the first in line, had been waiting over 30 hours for the chance to meet Kojima.
"It's a rare opportunity," he told Wired. "The game's dramatic, like a movie -- not just your simple Tetris or Mario type of game."
Also on hand was actress Yumi Kikuchi, who was motion-captured for MGS4.
This was just the first stop for Kojima on his whirlwind MGS4 tour. Next stop: San Francisco this weekend.
