Chris Chaproniere, a student of the Academy of Interactive Entertainment, Canberra, has been awarded the prestigious Sony Foundation Australia Interactive Technology Scholarship for 2003.
The award was presented by Phil Harrison, Executive Vice President of Development for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) who was in Australia for the recent Australian Game Developers Conference.
Chris was chosen from five finalists (including Rohan White, Alfred Rottinger, Shane Robinson and Nicholas Kerber) after a rigorous adjudication process involving assessment of a wide field of applicants by the Academy, interviews with a panel of games industry representatives and further interviews by a panel of judges from the Sony Foundation Australia.
“This is our fourth scholarship winner and the talent from which to choose a winner continues to impress," Steve Wherrett, spokesperson for the Sony Foundation said. "Eight of the ten finalists in the last two years have gone onto secure jobs in the industry, with our first winner, Damon Raynor, securing a position with SCEE while still on his internship in London. I think this demonstrates the worth of the scholarship and the quality of the students"
The $20,000 scholarship includes a $10,000 portion set aside for a two-week internship at SCEE's development studios in Soho, London. Chris will make the trip early in 2004.
