Rockstar: 'GTA IV will send tabloids mad'

Founding Rockstar designer Dan Houser fully expects mass media backlash once Grand Theft Auto IV is released in the US on April 29. The celebrity designer called video games "a convenient enemy for people" when speaking to North American press on Thursday, and said gamers can expect more realism in both the dialogue and graphics of GTA IV.

Epic: Consoles "stealing" PC gamers

In an interview with Guardian Unlimited, Epic Games' Mark Rein said, "I'm a real fan of the PC, but yes, consoles are definitely stealing a lot of hardcore gamers from the PC." He added, "When Call of Duty 4 came out, I heard some of our guys sitting around talking about the game... they said, 'Just send us a friends request.' It was at that point I realised they were all playing it on console.

BioShock wins 2007 critics poll

The Game Critics Awards on Thursday announced their aggregate winner of 2007's Game of the Year 2007. 2K's BioShock took the top honours, with The Orange Box and Call of Duty 4 (that was our pick) as runner-ups. The top three games were all first-person shooter titles.

Miyamoto talks innovation, handhelds, and hardcore games

Nintendo's chief awesome game maker said on Wednesday that lacklustre GameCube adoption was the primary motivation behind Wii's creative mojo. The venerable game designer said he hopes to create more portable social games while continuing to dedicate his time to mainstay franchises. "I'm making 'em all," he said.

Video game actors get a second chance

Reuters reports, "Videogames have helped resuscitate the careers of many film and television actors, whose distinctive voices can make them a hot commodity in the game world even as their status in Hollywood fades." Who knew?
