Just hours before its Australian release, and despite Microsoft's promise of impenetrable security, the Xbox 360 has been hacked. Xbox-Scene has video proof and a detailed text description of the hacking process.

The hack tricks the console into thinking a DVD-R is actually a legitimate Xbox 360 DVD, thus allowing the Xbox 360 to run copied games. The video shows a burned version of PGR 3 running flawlessly on a retail Xbox 360.

Because of its PC-based architecture, the original Xbox was a breeding ground for hackers and modders. Rampant game duplication prompted Microsoft to spent more time and effort in securing the Xbox 360 from unwanted break-ins, though console hacking is typically regarded as an inevitability.
