Amid concerns of a mandatory 20 minute installation for the PS3 version of Devil May Cry 4, Capcom says chill out... and go make a sandwich.
"It's true," says Capcom's Chris Kramer. "The first time you drop your DMC4 Blu-ray disc into your PS3 tray, you're going to be treated to an exciting 22 - 25 minute load process as the disc spins a few gigs of data onto your hard drive."
Kramer says gamers will be treated to a "nifty series of screens that completely catch you up on the DMC4 backstory," while the game is loading. If that doesn't work, he offers an alternative.
"If you don't want to watch the 'Previously, on Devil May Cry..." portion of the install process, go make a sandwich and grab a soda, then come on back," he says in candid form.
The Capcom community manager reminded critics that PC games require patience during initial installation as well, and that after installation, the PS3 version of DMC 4 loads faster than Xbox 360.
"Once installed – once, mind, not every time you play, as I've seen 'reported' on certain web sites less interested in facts than in OMG histrionics – the PS3 version of the game has near-Super Nintendo speed load times."
Epic's Unreal Tournament 3 for PS3 also supports an installation process to reduce reoccurring load times, but the feature is optional.
