Ubisoft: Just kidding, we LOVE the PSP! (News)

Ubisoft did an about face this week with its opinion of the PSP, as a spokesperson "clarified" the company's stance on the portable and said it would still "strongly supports" it with 12 upcoming games.

The revelation came less than one week after Ubisoft's UK rep, Ron Cooper, implied that Sony should scrap the current PSP strategy and start over. At the center of his argument was the belief that the PSP lacked games.

"By way of further clarifying some recent statements made in the press, Ubisoft wants to reaffirm that it strongly supports the PSP, which holds a unique place in the market, addressing dedicated gamers and offering unprecedented power in a portable console," the spokesperson told GameIndustry.biz.

Even with the Ubisoft clarification, the dearth of quality PSP software has still claimed at least one victim. In related PSP news, Ready at Dawn — previously a strong supporter of the PSP platform — has officially shuttered development on the portable so it can focus exclusively on the Wii.

Ready at Dawn (Chains of Olympus) even went so far as to post a picture of their PSP dev kits packed up on boxes, ready to be shipped back to Sony.

The news was hardly a surprise, as RaD developers said this would happen when Chains of Olympus went gold in Japan more than a month ago.
