EA promises fewer sequels, expects PS3 to outsell Xbox 360 (News)

According to CEO John Riccitiello (via Ars Technica), Electronic Arts will release fewer sequels and limit dependence on licensed properties to entice gamers with more original games, such as Spore, Dead Space, Battlefield Bad Company, Dragon H, and Saboteur.

In addition to a focus on new titles, EA anticipates global PS3 sales to outpace Xbox 360 sales in 2008. Specifically, the publisher expects Nintendo Wii to sell upwards of 14 million in 2008, followed by the PS3 with 11.5 million, the Xbox 360: at 8 million, and the PS2 with 4.9 million.

In terms of handhelds, EA believes the DS will move 16 million units, the most of any system, with the PSP rounding out the portable scene with 8 million units, a tie with Xbox 360.

Electronic Arts was overtaken by Activision last year as the world's largest video game maker. The company maintains that it is still the largest publisher by volume across all platforms, however.
