Hi Mr Electrity here,

I picked up the latest gamepro magazine and read the article of who is general failure? I just have to say that chris stead is a whiny little bitch. Am glad he only edits these articles and does not write many articles. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to get into a game if you have played it in the last six months. Unless you are a n00b. (omg liek u r teh sux)That is not hard to understand..fucking n00b.
Good job!!!

The problem that I have with it is 1. Direct x is not that big of a deal most graphic cards and latest games have it on the cd. So that's not that hard. 2. Online Gaming with consoles is the same like pc's. Often consoles like the xbox360 launch updates for games so you will need to update on consoles as well. 3. Little to no games need you to register out of all the games I have played only 2 needed my to register and it's not that big of a deal. Just name, address, e-mail address and cd-key. Not that big of a deal. 4. Which goes back to the graphics card drivers. How fricken old is your graphics card if you are needing to update the driver?!? You should generally only need 1 update that's it. 5. If you googling for the patch that's sad.. Going to the internet site for the game will 95% of the time bring you the patch that you are needing. But games like Lotr 2 battle for middle earth It automatically knows where to get the patch. So needs no effort. 6. Map downloads don't take that long it's like a 2-5 minute process and that's if you have to look for it yourself. But mostly you download it straight from the computer of whom ever is hosting the game. 7. Geek talk already covered it. Except what question is so hard that you are going to forums? Errors Yes. Location for maps and updates..nah nfw. But all together you are looking at a 5-20 minute process and you'll only need to do that like 1 in year to 5 years tops.

You have done some good articles and made some good points. That consoles do have it easier. But you are making computer sound like a nightmare to get into a mutiplayer game.
New content is not a bad thing but look at it as a good thing. If it's going to fix a major error or new content into an old game then you should be all for it. Am sorry that I may have sounded mean in the last post. But I hear it all to often. That computers are a pain. Keep up the good work!

It sounds like you are pretty well-versed in PC gaming and know all the shortcuts, but for a lot of readers out there who do only play the odd PC game, and have a slow internet connection and don't have spanking new machines the scenario I painted... admittedly with a bit of colour... does occur. I have had quite a lot of correspondence about it, and that discussion was actually inspired by the installing of a PC Game for review this issue.

That said, I am aware that many... and especially regular... PC gamers would not suffer these issues or would be able to circumnavigate them with ease. I would like to include your thoughts in the next issue as a 'retort' to that article as I am sure we will get a few more readers agreeing with your take on things. And as you say it not always a nightmare, indeed when all these issues occur independently they are but small hiccups, it is when you haven’t played for a while and they all occur at once that you get frustrated… especially if you want to sneak in a quick game before dinner, or sleep.

Anyway, thanks for being a part of the prodiscussion.

Chris

P.S My PC is kick ass (Dual-core 4400+, 2GB dual-channel RAM, 512MB X1900XT GF, RAIDed SATA HDs, 19” 4ms LCD, etc.) and I have been gaming on PC since the likes of Zak McKracken, Captain Comic and Nethack. And I have been frustrated many, many times installing new software.
