uuh, dude. there's no need to be a fanboy about it. It's cool that you're so into nintendo but don't let that blind you.
The fact of the matter is, considering this is Microsofts first forray into console gaming, they've done a pretty damn good job of 'holding their own'. Infact, it's quite surprising that an industry 'newbie' is competing neck-in-neck with an industry veteran.
Imo nintendo messed up with their gcn game plan and while nintendo is gaining a lot more japanese 3rd party support this gen, they're losing just as much western 3rd parties.
On the upside though, for the first time in a several years, nintendo has single-handedley got me excited about gaming again with the introduction of the DS. It's potential is staggering to say the least.
anyway, i'm way off topic. Great news to see nintendo market share rise considerably. Is that WW or just in Australia?
oh also, i'd just like to say that Nintendo is infact NOT losing much money on gcn hardware. The reason they're selling gcn hardware at such a low price is because they can. The components used to create gcn from the start of this generation were financially cheap to manufacture in comparisson to xbox & ps2 hardware. That's why ps2 & xbox are more expensive and nintendo can take deeper dives in price cuts. Not to say Sony or Microsoft can't make such a move, but if they did, they WOULD lose money on hardware. It's already well known that Microsoft hasn't made a single profit off xbox (infact it's been reported that they've lost over a billion dollars in xbox related ventures); but they're microsoft, they can afford to take a hit.
Sony-wise, well..... they're the market leader. Whaterver loss they make in hardware they can more than make up for in software sales. |
