"Microsoft announces that it will be publishing OutRun 2 in the United States, once again strengthening its ties with Sega. The company plans to ship the game in October 2004.

OutRun 2 comes a full 17 years after it first hit arcades worldwide. As an Xbox-exclusive game it features full Xbox Live support with worldwide rankings featuring race-times from the online-modes. Furthermore players can download the best runs and ghost race against them to improve their skills. On the acoustic side, OutRun 2 will feature remixed versions of the original songs from the first OutRun game."

For all those Outrun fans, this must be a good thing as it was scheduled for a 2005 release, or so the media says. Good to see things arrive on time or early for a change.

Snippet:
"Let the Challenges commence!
As you might expect, the in-development OutRun2 home version delivers a faithful recreation of the coin-op original, with identical 'checkpoint racing' arcade modes, 'heart attack' challenges, the same eight Ferrari models (four of which require unlocking) and the token beauty in the passenger seat. However, if there has been one major criticism of Sega conversions in the past, it is that they have tended to be rather thin on the ground. Crazy Taxi, Daytona and 18-Wheeler - all great fun for five minutes, but ultimately unrewarding in the long-term.

Well, 30-minutes if you're of a particularly impatient disposition.

The good thing about OutRun2 is that as well as cramming in the game familiar to arcade frequenters, it also features an entirely new single-player experience too. This extra mode, entitled 'Challenge', constitutes for a large chunk of the game and features a structure similar to Need for Speed: Underground. You know: a drift challenge here, a knockout race there ...basically, what you'll find is a wealth of stages split into approximately six rather varied missions. Nail them all, and you'll move onto the next. Simple, eh?"

Enjoy . . . .

Outrun 2 didn't impress me that much to tell you the truth .. it needed more gameplay elements . in my opinion.
