Subject Title - " What are 'hits' in ice hockey? "

In NHL Rivals 2004, one of the team stats categories is 'Hits' ie a team had 60 hits in a match. What is this?


Surely it can't be how many times you've hit the puck, or how many times you've body checked the opposition? These would be pretty hard to define.
