Just wanted to say to anyone who was considering buying animal crossing but put off by it being 'cutesy' and just downright weird should seriously consider it. Even renting it from the video store doesn't really give you enough time to uncover its nuances.

While its based on a real time clock and it's sometimes fun to 'fudge' it to get to specific times for specific events - just be sure that you don't make such fudgings too far apart from each other - like i did. when i played the game again the town was covered in weeds (NOT fun to remove) and all the animals thought i was back from the dead.

Games as bizarre and original as this come across your path very rarely and as such - if you have a gamecube - you really should have this game.

Yeah I imported it from Canada (along with the Freeloader) and had great fun for about a month, then it just got too samey. I know there are different event and stuff but still...

It was a fantastic title while it lasted. LOL and yah I booted it up after a few months without playing it and there were weeds everywhere and my house was full of cockroaches.

ah so thats what they were ;) i just thought they were stupid bug things - they looked cool when you squashed them though.

i've had the game for about a week now and not bored of it yet - but i understand it would be easy to get that way..

i mean what do you do once you have found every fish, insect, made all the donations to the museum, found all the NES games and KK Slider tracks? especially since there is no ending.. i think it would have been nice to have a semi-ending once you found or got everything.

I would really like to see a sequel to AC. Possibly making use of the the internet (something nintendo have to get into if they want to survive in my opinion), allowing friends to travel to their mates town via the net and not by mem. card.
The towns should also be larger, but these may just be a dream to me.
Anyway back to the task at hand. I am a huge fan of AC and play it everyday (who'd wanna miss out on the town?). I was ready to also take the blow from my typically bigheaded brother (big fan of realistic shooters), but he got into this straight away. This game has him even more hooked then me and I struggle for go's now.
To finish off I have to say yes it does get tedious and long at times but its the most popular game I have had on the Cube because of its originality, something more games need (not saying others don't!).

good call stubbietubbie.. if there ever was a game that screamed for the net its animal crossing.

but in japan don't they have it so that you can swap save files over the internet now? with the sd memory card adaptor!?

Yes they do and they also got an updated version released just for Japan.
I don't really care for a update unless its at a cheap price (possibly $50 or so), but i'd wait for a sequel.

Anyway I've been pondering what Harvest Moon: AWL will be like. I understand what you do (being a farmer) but I have never player a harvest moon game before. Will this be a better game than Animal Crossing? Cos I don't want to be living three lives! (AC life, HM life, MY life!)

Oh well too much of my times spent either on the 'puter or the cube so i really should get my life!!

wasn't the updated version just what we got?
the original wasn't compatible with the e-reader.. that's why the update had the + ??

i dunno.. i'm so far out of the loop at the moment. you'd think that when you finally finished uni for the year you'd have time to play your days away.. but work.. holidays..? what holidays??

at least you have time to enjoy what you enjoy.. live it up.. its worth it.

Yes its true that we have an updated version.
But the first/original AC was on the 64 in Japan, it was later ported and updated onto the cube (hence the +).

There was then an update disc in Japan.

Hope that solves that riddle.

Bought it just after christmas with the EB gift voucher that my younger brother gave to me. So funny pushing Buck into a pitfall on April Fools day. Just need to get the remainder of the nes games
I have
Excite Bike
Donkey Kong
Ballon Fight
Tennis
Soccer
Pinball
Clu Clu Land
contact me on these forums if you want to trade. And get the best score from the HRA and I would consider this game finished.

As for online this is what I envision. Each new home console comes with an animal crossing squel on it so when their is no game in the console you can choice to paly it. Similar to Alex Kidd on the old sega master system. Now here is the good part hook your console up to the world wide webiverse hop on the train and travel to a gigantic mega city of trade commerrce and communication across the globe. Ideally I would find some way that you can organise online matches for other games in this world.

But still Animal Crossing is a great achievement to think thatfor the next thirty years I will still be looking for rare furniture and pushing buck into pitfalls.
