Logitech G915 TKL Wireless Gaming Keyboard Review

Logitech G915 TKL Review 2024

Stellar performance. But is the G915 TKL too expensive?

Logitech G915 TKL Review
Shrinking the fantastic performance of the G915 gaming keyboard into a much smaller size, the Logitech G915 TKL is an absolutely superb gaming keyboard. Given the price point, the Logitech G915 TKL is geared towards serious gamers and higher budgets. However, if you can afford to splash out, you will be very impressed all round.

The switches are fantastic, the durability is strong and the overall aesthetics are a sight for sore eyes. All things considered, the Logitech G915 TKL is one of the best mid-range gaming keyboards around.

Recently, Logitech Gaming keyboards have excelled all expectations. From the entry-level G213 gaming keyboard to the top of the range wireless keyboards such as the G915 TKL, Logitech’s growing range is competing with the very best. In this Logitech G915 TKL review, we go under the hood of a product that slims down the much loved Logitech G915 and presents a tenkeyless version specifically designed for gamers.

If you are unfamiliar with tenkeyless keyboards, the short version is that they remove the Numpad to slim down the keyboard and create a cleaner, more focussed design for gaming. Not many people use the Numpad and therefore by not having one, you probably will not be missing out on much.

Logitech G915 TKL Review

G915 TKL Design

Almost identical to the full-sized G915 lightspeed keyboard, the Logitech G915 TKL embodies everything we loved about the original G915 but with cutting edge tenkeyless specifications. You will immediately notice that the G915 TKL does not come with a Numpad or side pad for G macro keys like the original. Specifically designed for gamers, the layout of the G915 TKL has been extremely well thought out.

Although smaller in size, the premium nature of the G915 has not been sacrificed. With super soft media keys and a smooth-scrolling volume wheel, everything about the design feels classy. What you are paying for with the G915 TKL is a premium and durable build. For all those button-bashing moments, the Logitech G915 TKL will stand the test of time. The dense frame and aircraft-grade aluminium sit on top of a steel-reinforced plastic base that is slightly textured. This creates an extremely well-polished design while retaining the sturdiness that you would expect of a premium gaming keyboard.

Keyboard Specifications

At just 15.2 x 5.8 x 0.9 inches, the Logitech G915 TKL will save you horizontal desk space over the G915 Lightspeed which is slightly larger in size (18.7 x 5.9 x 0.9 inches). Once again, this does not come with much sacrifice on features. Here are some key specifications.

Specification Fact Sheet
Physical Size 360mm x 150mm x 22mm
Weight 810 grams
Key Switches Low Profile Tactile GL
Battery Life 40 Hours
Onboard Memory 2 Lighting Profiles
Macro Profiles 3 Macro Profiles
Wireless Lightspeed Wireless
Bluetooth Yes, Bluetooth Enabled

Tactical, minimalist and bursting with style, the Logitech G915 TKL wireless gaming keyboard puts gamers at the forefront of everything that it has to offer. Inclusive of Logitech G Hub software, players have full control over RGB and even the G logo settings. With presets such as Ocean Wave to slow transitioning backlighting, you can choose between a placid or a more aggressive look depending on what game you are playing.

Now, how was our experience with the Logitech G915 TKL wireless keyword?

Logitech G915 TKL Wireless Mechanical Keyboard

Keyboard Features

Although the Logitech G Hub may overwhelm first time users, the extensive features that come with it offer so much functionality. With Lightsync, you can program each key’s lighting colour alongside the G logo, RGB brightness and media keys. There are also nine preset effects including an audio visualiser effect which has advanced settings including a percentage for clip zone, bass zone and mid-high noise thresholds and percentage for audio boost.

Utilising proprietary Logitech GL mechanical switches, players have the choice between GL Clicky, GL Tactile, and GL Linear. Each offers a slightly different experience with GL Tactile best suited for modern FPS games and GL Linear for calmer gameplay. As for the connection, the Logitech G915 TKL is primarily a wireless keyboard that boasts Logitech’s impressive Lightspeed 1ms technology. However, you can also connect via Bluetooth.

With everything wireless, battery life is extremely important and players can expect to receive up to 40 hours of gameplay with the Logitech G915 TKL. Even with all RGB effects enabled, you would be disappointed to not receive this battery length for a keyboard of this price tag. This is a stark improvement from its predecessors’ 30-hour battery life.

Gaming Experience

To say that we have used the Logitech G915 TKL for hours upon end would be an understatement. As our current go-to for gaming on the move, the overall experience with the G915 TKL when gaming is superb. The tactile switches are best for competitive first-person shooter games and the linear switches are smooth features for MMO and more casual games. The switches are suitable for almost everything.

Responsiveness is everything when gaming and the Logitech G915 TKL is highly responsive. Long presses become easy with the short travel distance and the low profile keys make rapid movements more accessible. To date, we have not experienced a single dropout with the wireless dongle and we all know that Australian Wi-Fi is not very good. We would recommend making full use of Logitech Lightspeed by using the dongle rather than Bluetooth. After all, you are ultimately paying for this technology and should make the most of your investment.

Logitech G915 TKL Lightspeed Keyboard

Lightspeed Technology

If you have never experienced Logitech Lightspeed Wireless Gaming technology, prepare yourself to be amazed. LIGHTSPEED is an end-to-end wireless solution that delivers low-latency and extremely reliable performance. A common complaint with wireless gaming technology is the latency that occurs from when you press the button on your keyboard to when the internet catches up with your fast-natured gameplay. On the professional scene, this can be catastrophic to performance as every millisecond counts.

Tested by professional gamers, the G wireless gaming software was first to be used within professional CS:GO tournaments with the G wireless gaming mouse series. For anybody who has never played CS:GO, this game really depends on accuracy and speed. With leading eSports clans such as Team SoloMid and G2 all dependent upon LIGHTSPEED technology every single day, the fact that the Logitech G915 TKL wireless gaming keyboard comes with this functionality is incredible.

In fact, during testing, Logitech found that all gaming mice using Lightspeed wireless technology had less latency than wired mice. Now, whether that translates to gaming keyboards remains to be seen. However, we have no doubt that you will immediately see the benefits of Lightspeed technology when playing fast-paced games such as Fortnite.

Logitech G915 TKL Price & Value

Currently, you can grab your Logitech G915 TKL keyboard for anywhere between $280 to $300 depending on where you purchase. At this price, you have to anticipate that you are about to receive something truly special. Particularly when you can buy one handed gaming keyboards for much cheaper that still fulfill the majority of your gaming needs.

While not a completely outlandish investment for the very serious gamer, it is extremely expensive for the casual player. It would also appear that despite have ten keys less than the original Logitech G915 gaming keyboard, the price of the product is almost identical. I guess you pay more for minimalism these days.

As for value for money, should you be a serious player or borderline gaming professional, you will absolutely fall in love with the product. It’s lightweight, portable and comes with absolutely everything you could ever need. However, to really reap the rewards of the price, you will have to be at the very top of your game. For the more casual player, there may be cheaper options to explore as you will not be reaping these benefits so often.

Logitech G915 TKL Gaming Keyboard Backlights

Negatives

Besides the price, we could not find too many other drawbacks when writing our Logitech G915 TKL review. Sadly there is no wrist rest which we would have expected for a keyboard of this price tag. You can get extremely good wrist rests on much cheaper keyboards and therefore this was one of the biggest drawbacks for us. Given the slim nature of the keyboard, you are definitely not fitting a USB through the device. Therefore, your only option is to connect via Bluetooth. Again, this may be trouble for some but overall it should not be a problem.

Logitech G915 TKL Review Verdict.

Overall, we have graded this Logitech G915 TKL review a respectable 90%. Functionality and experience-wise, the Logitech G915 TKL is about as good as portable and wireless gaming keyboards get. The slender build of the tenkeyless gaming keyboard makes the overall design absolutely stunning without impacting too much on performance. The original G915 keyboard was slender enough, however, this takes sleekness to a whole new level.

From customisable per-key RGB settings to up to 3 onboard profiles, players using this keyboard good control over about everything that you would want control over with the keyboard itself. Okay, it would be nice to have a wrist rest and better ergonomic features, however, the Logitech G915 TKL wireless gaming keyboard is impressive.

There is not much else on the market to compare this keyboard to other than perhaps the Razer Turret. Of which, given that the Razer Turret is much more expensive, you would get better value for money with the G915 TKL. Although, the Razer Turrent does look incredible when using the Razer Iskur Gaming Chair at the same time.
