Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10K Review

Product Design

For appearances, the Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10,000mAh Power Bank is, well, a slimline pocket brick. However, don’t be fooled by the phrase ‘brick’. While it is shaped like a brick, the 10,000mAh power bank is about the thickness of your thumb and can easily fit into your pockets; even for you skinny jean wearing freaks out there.

At the top of the power bank, you will find 2x USB ports delivering 2 amps and a micro-USB port. This makes the ChargeUp 10,000mAh compatible with most modern-day connections. On the front of the power bank, you will also find a digital display which lets you know how much percentage of battery is left. This display works both when charging up the Cygnett power bank or charging your tablet or iPhone. Of course, the numbers should be going down when charging your external devices; else, you have a big problem!

As for the design, the 10,000mAh power bank is the definition of function over form. It’s sleek, black and has a rubberised coat to reduce the risk of dropping the device while also keeping it secure in your pockets. Besides that, it’s lightweight, compact and you will barely notice you have it on your person.

We often take our Razer Kishi gaming controller everywhere we go and this power bank has kept us mobile gaming for many hours upon end!

That’s all there really is to say about the appearance. A black rectangle box that’s easy to hold and doesn’t weigh a ton of bricks. Ta-Daaa! For those of you who do like a bit of style, you’ll be pleased to know that you can also choose from a blue, lilac or red version of the device. However, the black is definitely the more professional look.

Product Features

As for its features, the Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10,000mAh is a little bit fancier than rival portable chargers. With the Cygnett, you can expect:

  • 2x 2 amp outputs which work simultaneously.
  • A battery level display for charging.
  • 1x micro USB port.

Whereas many similar power banks feature 2 sockets (1x 1 amp output and 1x 2 amp output), the Cygnett Digital ChargeUp 10,000 power bank features two, 2 amp sockets. If you use high power devices such as an iPhone that charges properly with 2 amps, this is a huge time saver for you as the Cygnett 10000 power bank will deliver much faster charging times. Not to mention that you can charge 2 iPhones at once. This makes the Cygnett 10,000mAh power bank perfectly suitable for teams, businesses conferences or long road trips with your friends.

The 10,000mAh charger also comes with a short micro-usb cable but does not include a lightning USB cable. This can be purchased separately. It would have been nice for a small carry case, but you can’t expect everything for this price range.

Cygnett Power Bank 10,000mAh Vs TP Link

Battery Capacity, Power & Charge.

Utilising a lithium polymer battery, the 2nd Gen Cygnett ChargeUp Boost comprises of the best battery technology available within this price range. Measured in Milliampere-hours (mAh), this particular charger has a whopping 10,000 of these in total capacity. In the grand scheme of things there’s other chargers from Cygnett that will deliver far more than this but still, that’s a lot of charges!

However, what you often find is that poorly made power banks never truly live up to this expectation. In fact, some of the cheaper power banks on the market are quick to lose almost all that promised gusto.

Conversely, we have been using our Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10000 for almost 6 months now and it is still as powerful as when we first took it out of the box. Frequently charging at exhibitions and events, our Huawei P40 Pro smartphone seldom runs out of juice; even with that impressive camera!

From a completely dead battery, you can expect to charge:

  • Up to 2.6 phone charges
  • Charge 3 devices at once (1x USB-C & 2x USB-A)

Additionally, when charging our iPad we were consistently able to obtain just short of 2 amps from the Cygnett ChargeUp Boost. Whereas, when using other portable power banks, such as the TP-Link 10400, both ports (even though one is 2 amps) would charge our iPad up using just 1 amp. This is not a problem with the TP-Link itself, but rather the iPad being unable to recognise the difference between the two ports.

Key Specifications

Here’s a full breakdown of the Cygnett ChargeUp 10,000mAh specifications. As you will see, the fast charging for Apple Devices and dual 2.4 amp outputs ports are the real winners here compared to other power banks at a similar price range.

Dimensions: ‎7.3 x 1.53 x 14.3 cm
Weight: 231 grams
Batteries: ‎1 Lithium Polymer batteries required.
Colour: Black
Inclusions: Battery Pack + USB Charging Cable
Output Ports: Dual 2.4 amp Output Ports
Smart Chip Technology: Fast Charging (Apple Devices)
Short Circuit Protection: Yes
Over Voltage Protection: Yes

The Negatives

On the downside, the Cygnett Power Bank 10000 can take up to 10 hours to fully charge itself. While charging your gadgets with up to 2 amps, the Cygnett Power Bank has a maximum 1 amp charge. This results in almost twice the amount of time to charge itself. Honestly, this is not such a bad thing as most people will leave their power banks charging overnight. However, when you are in a hurry, this will be heavily frustrating.

Additionally, unlike other leading power banks, the Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10,000mAh does not come with a protective sleeve. Anybody with a power bank is likely to be on the move. As such, even a silk cover would help somewhat to protect the gadget. Again, it’s a small deficiency but would have gone a long way to making the ultimate product.

Price & Value

Available in black, red, blue, orange or white directly from Cygnett or from Amazon from $59.95, the Cygnett Power Bank 10000 portable charger is great value for money. There is absolutely no price for avoiding those awkward technology-less moments. Heck, you may even have to start communicating with real humans – which would suck!

When we originally wrote our 1st Gen Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10,000mAh review over 2 years ago, the price of the unit was still the same as it stands today for the 2nd Gen. So don’t be holding out for any discounts as there has not been any to date! That said, the product still comes with a 14-day change of mind policy and a 2 year warranty when you buy directly from Cygnett which is awesome.

For less than $60, you can avoid the frantic search for the nearest power outlet. The ChargeUp Boost will restore your phone battery back to 100% regardless of where you are. It will do this up to 4 times consecutively and can charge 2 devices at once with the same power.

Is the Cygnett ChargeUp Boost worth buying?

Despite being a few years older, the Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10,000mAh is definitely still worth purchasing. As far as bang for buck goes, there’s plenty of that here and 10,000mAh will keep you powered up for hours upon end.

If you can wait a few hours for your power bank to self-charge or are willing to leave it charging overnight, the 10 hour self charging time immediately does not become a hurdle and you’ll not even notice the fact that this is quite a long time as far as power banks go.

You should buy the Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10KmAh if…

  • Money is not a hurdle.
  • You travel often with multiple devices.
  • You need to charge more than one device at a time.
  • You wear skinny jeans and enjoy slimline projects.
  • You don’t need more power such as 20,000mAh.
  • You hate power banks that don’t display charging indicators.

You shouldn’t buy Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10KmAh if…

  • You are on a budget.
  • You will only be recharging your phone.
  • You need a power bank that self-charges quickly.
  • You often bump and bang your devices

Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10K Review Verdict.

Overall, we were super impressed with the Cygnett ChargeUp Boost 10,000mAh and have graded our Cygnett Power Bank 10000 review an impressive  93%. Comparatively to other portable chargers within this price range, the Cygnett is much slimmer which is a huge benefit when moving from location to location. The 10,000mAh power bank also carries 2x 2 amp ports which enable fast charging for two devices at once and we could not imagine a portable charger without 2 ports since using this device!

Furthermore, another reason why we enjoyed the Cygnett Charge Up Boost is that the power bank does not run anywhere near as hot as other power banks that we have tested. We also really liked the digital display that tells us exactly how much charge is left. Rather than incremental blocks declining every 25% of battery life, the Cygnett 10,000mAh tells you precisely when you’re about to run out of juice.

For less than $60, the Cygnett Power Bank 10000 is a quality product that will not disappoint. Okay, so the power bank itself does not charge its own batter very quickly and a protective sleeve would have been nice. However, the features available do not get much better than what Cygnett have delivered. We would highly recommend this product.
