Horizon Zero Dawn Power Cells

Horizon Zero Dawn Power Cell Locations (Easy Guide)

Great armour must be forged by great power cells.

Powerful armour in Horizon Zero Dawn needs powerful cells and the shield-weaver outfit is the most powerful of them all. Creating a force field around Aloy and blocking all damage types, whilst this armour set doesn’t make Aloy invincible, it makes it pretty hard to ever lose a fight again in Horizon Zero Dawn. Sound too good to be true?

Well, there’s a slight catch.

To unlock the shield-weaver outfit, you have to find and collect all five Power Cells for the side quest Ancient Armoury, and they’re scattered across the entire game. It’s tough enough that we felt the need to put a guide together to help you out!πŸ‘‡

Horizon Zero Dawn Power Cell Locations

The five power cells in Horizon Zero Dawn are scattered across the entire game. You won’t unlock the shield-weaver outfit until you near the end of the game so here’s an easy-to-follow guide on how to collect them all.

From Aloy’s very first underground bunker to the ancient ruins of GAIA Prime, here are all the Power Cell locations in Horizon Zero Down and how to find them.

Follow the main questline and collect power cells in this order:

Horizon Zero Dawn Underground Bunker Power Cell Location

Power Cell Location 1 – The Underground Bunker

The very first power cell that you should collect in Horizon Zero Dawn is the power cell in the Underground Bunker. You can unlock this power cell at the very start of the game, right after you finish the young Aloy prologue. You actually go past it during the prologue.

The find the power cell in the underground bunker, follow these 7 steps:

  1. Step 1: First, complete the young Aloy prologue
  2. Step 2: Then, retrace your steps and enter the ruins,
  3. Step 3: Walk through the barracks, and go down the stairs.
  4. Step 4: Crack open the closed door and walk through the offices.
  5. Step 5: Climb the next set of stairs until you see a door blocked by rocks.
  6. Step 6: Smash the rocks with your spear and open the door.
  7. Step 7: Through this door, you will find the first power cell.

Horizon Zero Dawn All Mother Temple Power Cell Location

Power Cell Location 2 – The All-Mother Temple

Once you’ve completed The Proving, and started The Womb of the Mountain mission you can find the second Power Cell in Horizon Zero Dawn. This particular power cell is in the All-Mother Temple in Mother’s Watch.

The find the power cell in the All-Mother Temple, follow these 4 steps:

  1. Step 1: Start the ‘Womb of the Mountain’ mission
  2. Step 2: During the sequence when you wake up, locate a locked door near the exit
  3. Step 3: Next to this locked door you will see an open-air vent.
  4. Step 4: Climb through the air vent into a room where you will see the second Power cell.

If you’ve already completed this quest and you can’t get back into the temple, don’t worry. Follow the main story along a little further and the doors will open again. And there’s no rush either since the other Power Cells crop up further in the storyline too.

Horizon Zero Dawn Makers End Power Cell Location

Power Cell Location 3 – Maker’s End

The third Power Cell that you should go hunting for in Horizon Zero Dawn is the Power Cell that can be found at Maker’s End. This is both a location and a quest so you will need both to unlock the Power Cell.

For this particular power cell, you’re best to get your hiking boots on as you will need to climb not only up the Faro’s Office but also a tower that, well, is quite tall indeed. I hope you’re not scared of heights!

To find the power cell at Maker’s End, follow these 4 simple steps:

  • Step 1: First climb the old F.A.S building up to Faro’s Office.
  • Step 2: Then, climb the tower on the east side to the very top.
  • Step 3: Look for the overgrown cliff ledge once you’re at the top of the tower
  • Step 4: Sat on this cliff ledge you will find the fourth Power Cell.

Horizon Zero Dawn The Grave Hoard Power Cell Location

Power Cell Location 4 – The Grave Hoard

The fourth Power Cell location in Horizon Zero Dawn can be found during a quest called the Grave Hoard. By this point in the game, you might be a little sick of searching for the power cells – just give me the outfit already!

Don’t worry, you’re on the home stretch.

To find the power cell at the Grave Hoard, follow these 4 simple steps:

  • Step 1: Start ‘The Grave Hoard’ questline
  • Step 2: Locate for the locked door that requires three machines to be reset
  • Step 3: Reset these machines and then come back to the door.
  • Step 4: As soon as you open the door, the Power Cell will be waiting for you.

To reset the machines, you will need to solve a series of holographic dials by turning them in the correct order. Firstly, scan the room for these dials and their accompanying pink boxes on the walls. There are three sets – one on your current level, reached by hopping across a gap to a golden bar, and two on the level below. The dials turn green when solved.

Dial 1: The one on your level is solved by turning the dials to the following positions, from left to right: [Up, Down, Left, Right].

Dial 2: On the bottom level, one with a broken pink box and datapoint next to it goes, from left to right: [Up, Right, Left, Down].

Dial 3: Finally, the second on that level goes: [Up, Up, Down, Down]. Climb back up the ladder nearby and through the door.

Power Cell Location 5 – GAIA Prime

The fifth and final Horizon Zero Dawn Power Cell can be found deep in the mountain of GAIA Prime during The Mountain That Fell quest. After talking to Sylens, you will climb down an elevator shaft and into the ruins. Sound familiar? There’s a slight twist.

To find the power cell at GAIA Prime, follow these 4 simple steps:

  • Step 1: Start ‘The Mountain That Fell’ questline
  • Step 2: Engage in conversation with Sylens.
  • Step 3: Climb down an elevator shaft and into the ruins.
  • Step 4: Instead of turning right to follow the quest marker, turn left.
  • Step 5: Locate the stack of rocks and rubbles with a glowing blue cave at the top.
  • Step 6: Climb on top of these rocks and follow the pathway of the cave
  • Step 7: Eventually, at the end of the cave you will see the last Power Cell sitting on a shelf.

Pro Tip

Once you have found all of the power cells in Horizon Zero Dawn and completed the Ancient Armory side quest, this quest will direct you back to the same place, Ancient Armory. Once there, to unlock the Shield Weaver Outfit, you will need to complete one last puzzle.

First, plug in the Power Cells to start the puzzle. Then, rotate the wheels to the right configuration to complete the circuit. It’s simple enough to figure out yourself, but if you’re itching to equip the armour, the configuration is: [Right, Left, Up, Right, Left]

Enjoy your newfound forcefield!
